Your device is corrupt Android error

Last update:

The message "Your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and may not work properly" may appear because the device has been turned off due to low battery, it has been turned off during an update or after installing a rom other than the one that the device comes from the factory.

When you turn on a device with the Android operating system, the system verifies that the installed software is from a trusted source, that it has not been modified or damaged, and if it fails this check, this error message may appear.

If this message has appeared on your mobile phone or tablet, don't worry because all is not lost, you can continue using your device normally after following the following steps.

To carry out the guide you need to have a computer and a USB connection cable. In this guide we are going to use the Windows operating system, but if you are a Linux or Mac user you will surely be able to follow the same steps adapting them to the interface of your operating system.

Estimated time: 20 minutes.

Step 1:

Download and install ADB on your Windows computer. You can search Google for “adb download” or use the following download link from the official Google website:

ADB, or Android Debug Bridge, is a command line tool that allows communication between a computer and an Android device. It is part of the Android SDK (Software Development Kit) and provides a bridge to manage the device or its content.

Step 2:

Extract the folder to a location on your hard drive. To extract the files, right-click on the .zip file, click on “Extract All”, a window will appear in which you can choose the location on your hard drive where to extract the files.

Step 3:

Download and install the drivers for your device. Some manufacturers, when you connect the device via USB to the computer, Windows automatically searches for and installs the drivers. You can check this if when you connect it, a window appears in the lower right corner of the screen indicating that the drivers are being installed.

If they are not installed automatically, search Google for “windows usb drivers + brand of your device”, for example “windows usb drivers samsung”.

If you have come to this tutorial because you have flashed your device to install a rom, you may already have the drivers installed on your PC.

Step 4:

Put the mobile in fastboot mode: pressing the volume down and power buttons at the same time for a few seconds until the screen turns on and shows the fastboot mode menu, this may vary depending on the device.

Step 5:

Open the folder where you have ADB installed, then open the command window in this location.

To open a command window, right-click on any empty space in the folder and click on “Open in terminal.”

Open in Windows terminal

Step 6:

Connect the device to the computer via USB, preferably with its original cable, otherwise any cable that allows data transmission should work.

If it doesn't work with one cable, try another, there are cables that only transmit power but not data.

Step 7:

Type the following in the command window: adb reboot “dm-verity enforcing” without quotes, as seen in the following image. Press the “Enter” key on your keyboard.

Then type the following in the command window: “fastboot reboot” without quotes. Press the “Enter” key on your keyboard.

The device will reboot and start normally.

Pixel devices

For Google Pixel phones there is a simpler method but for which you will still need to connect the phone to a computer and have an internet connection on that computer.

Once the Pixel phone is in Fastboot mode as indicated in step 4, you must connect it to the computer and open the following website: flash.android.com.

Upon accessing, a floating window will appear asking for permission to access ADB, press the blue allow button.

Select the Pixel device you need to fix and different OS distributions will appear to flash or install.

Select the public distribution, then select “default”, if you leave the “Wipe device” option checked, all the information contained on the device will be erased.

If you leave the “Lock Bootloader” option checked, the Pixel operating system cannot be modified again by third parties, that is, only by the manufacturer.

Press “Install Build” and if you are sure that everything is correct press “Confirm” to confirm flashing the device with that rom, several warning messages will appear indicating that all content on the device will be erased and that it should not be disconnected or manipulated until the process has been completed.

After accepting the conditions, it will take a few minutes to download the software and install it on the Pixel.

Before finishing it will ask us to activate “Lock the bootloader”, use the phone's volume buttons to move through the Fastboot menus and press the power button to confirm, once this is done the phone will reboot and should work normally.
